Lóvua - The province of Lunda-Norte has 50,000 hectares of land available for the production of Arabica coffee, a crop that began to be implemented in the constituency this year.
The project, whose indicators point to an initial harvest of three tons/hectare, within three years, is part of the program to promote coffee production in the country.
The director of the Provincial Office of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries in Lunda-Norte informed on Saturday, José Mendes, who spoke to the press regarding the implementation of coffee cultivation in the province, highlighting that the project is already underway in some municipalities.
He recalled that the project expects to involve more than three thousand families in the first phase, with plans to increase to five/six thousand, after the conditions are created, especially with the expansion of cultivation areas.
At this stage, the 1st in this case, municipal administrations, depending on the seedlings they will receive, must prepare at least 3 to 5 thousand hectares.
He said that the goal is to cover the 10 municipalities, where 100 hectares are expected to be available for the planting of 87 thousand coffee seedlings, including limestone for soil correction.
Lóvua takes the first step
The Lóvua's authorities began (Friday) the planting program of 2,200 coffee seedlings, in an area of two hectares.
Fifty farmers will be involved, who in the coming days will benefit from training to perfect grain cultivation techniques, from land preparation to processing the product for consumer markets. HD/CF/DOJ
