Dundo – Seventeen thousand Arabica coffee seedlings are available to farmers selected in the first phase of the program to promote the production in the municipality of Chitato, north-eastern province of Lunda-Norte, whose campaign began today, in in the village of Candjamba.
The information was made official today, Tuesday, by the director of the provincial Agriculture office in Lunda-Norte, José Mendes, during the launch of the coffee production campaign, highlighting that the goal is to transform the district into one of the largest producers.
Without informing the number of peasant women selected in this first phase, he informed that coffee will be produced on at least three thousand hectares.
He called for commitment on the farmers selected in the first phase, with a view to achieving the agreed objectives.
The first phase of the program to promote Arabica coffee production envisages the involvement of more than three thousand peasant families in the province of Lunda-Norte.
The program will cover the province's 10 municipalities, where each administration, depending on the seedlings it receives, must prepare at least 3 to 5 thousand hectares.
He highlighted, the number of families involved could increase up to 5 to 6 thousand, with the condition created, above all, with the expansion of cultivation areas, with the goal being to reach 100 thousand hectares in all municipalities, to the cultivation of 87 thousand seedlings.
In addition to Chitato, the municipalities of Cuilo and Caungula have already been awarded 18 thousand seedlings, to begin production.
The first phase of this program to promote coffee culture, in the province of Lunda-Norte, involves the municipalities of Cuilo, Caungula, Capenda-Camulemba, Lucapa and Cambulo.
