The information was provided ons Friday by the director of the local office of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Toni Camuti, at the end of the VI ordinary session of the Government of the province of Huambo, chaired by Governor Pereira Alfredo.
On the occasion, he said that local families will be able to count on a quiet agricultural year, which is scheduled to open in the first half of September, as the local government is doing everything so that families have fertilizers and other inputs necessary for the practice of agriculture.
He said that close to 900,000 hectares of land could be cultivated, both in the family and business sectors, due to the increase of 10.8 percent of peasants, compared to the previous year.
He also said that, under the extension and rural development programme, 118,430 families will be assisted, which corresponds to 40 percent of the target group, with direct and indirect support, through partners, as well as municipal administrations, within the framework of the programme to combat poverty.
To this end, Toni Camuti said that the province of Huambo is already receiving the fertilizers, in which a total of eight thousand tons are planned, with about seven thousand consisting of 12/24/12, 500 of urea and an equal number of ammonium sulfate and simple fertilizer.
He said that the quantities are possible to start the 2024/2025 agricultural year, as other actions will be continued, according to the various programs for peasant families.
He called for the involvement of peasants in production, as the rehabilitation of ditches, small irrigated areas, technical assistance, among others, are underway, so as not to depend on the rains. ZZN/JSV/ALH/DOJ
