Uíge - Sixty coffee producers from the municipality of Uíge, province with the same name, on Thursday began training in modern coffee production techniques, in an initiative of the Mukafe project.
The two days training project is funded by the European Union (UE) and will address issues on the different types of coffee pruning, mother plant selection, seed preparation and strengthening the economic inclusion of women leaders in the coffee value chain.
Speaking to Angop, the coordinator of the Mukafe project, José Maingui, said that training is part of the production cycle of this crop, as well as the inclusion of young people and women in coffee farming.
He said that mobilization actions are underway to support the need for young people and women to join the coffee production activity in this region of the country.
“A large number of young people and women are interested in embarking on coffee production, involving the renewal of plantations and the human species of the coffee producer”, he added.
With the same objective, 60 producers from the municipality of Mucaba were also trained on Wednesday.
The Mukafe project is being implemented in 18 provinces of Cuanza-Sul in the municipalities of Libolo and Amboim, Cuanza-Norte (Golungo Alto and Quiculungo) and Uíge (Mucaba and Uíge).
The northern Uíge province has a total of 4,551 coffee producers, who harvested 4,006 tons of this crop in 2023.
