Lubango - At least USD100 million is to be made available by the African Development Bank (AfDB), to finance family agriculture in 2025, with priority for the country’s southern region.
The bank’s representative to Angola, Pietro Toigo, said this Thursday to the press, in Lubango City, southern Huila Province, that the goal of the investment is to fortify this region that is affected by drought and also in Cuanza-Sul Province which is going through a similar situation, with reports of famine cases.
The financing, disclosed the source, will enable farmers to involve in big scale production and support the waters and sanitation sector, as well as help in sustainable urbanisation, mainly in the Angolan coastal towns.
Since the year 2020, the AfDB has released USD225 million to national producers, with the aim to boost agricultural production.
As regards investment in energy projects, the official - who is also AfDB’s representative to the Republic of São Tomé & Príncipe – explained that since 2023 the institution made available USD 500 million in the ambit of the National Development Plan (PDN 2022-2027). JT/MS/jmc
