Ondjiva - Cunene authorities banned the sale of pork and its derivatives, as well as the entry of animals of this species from the province of Huíla, to avoid cases of African Swine Fever (ASF).
Cases of swine fever were detected in some municipalities of Huíla province, and due to the flow of movements between the two neighboring territories, Cunene decided to redoubles vigilance.
The head of the Veterinary Services department in Cunene, Cláudio Simão, told ANGOP on Monday that inspection controls were created in Cahama and Xangongo, where defense and security bodies inspect vehicles transporting animals, to avoid the spread of the disease.
He added that the authorities are asking for livestock farmers in Cunene to redouble biosafety, hygiene and health measures in the farm areas, as well as reporting any clinical case of the animals to the veterinary services.
Regarding the departure of these animals from Cunene to other parts of the country, the source stated that it does not pose any risk because the province has not recorded any suspected cases, meaning it can supply them to the domestic and foreign markets, as long as they are followed by the respective health guide.
The existence of African Swine Fever (ASF) in Huíla was confirmed by the Central Veterinary Laboratory (CVL) in Windhoek, Namibia, and its epicenter is the Quavi Lda farm, in the municipality of Humpata, where 562 pigs were slaughtered. FI/LHE/ B.C/CF/DOJ
