Humpata - At least 300 million US dollars will be invested this year in Angola by the Austrian company "Thomas Kiecmayer" in agriculture and eucalyptus production in the country’s central Huíla province, the head of the company affiliated to Thomas Kiecmayer's Francisco Leitão told ANGOP.
The investment will cover an area of 25,000 hectares for the cultivation of cereals, tubers, fruit and vegetables, as well as the installation of an industry for the processing and transformation of soya, maize and fruit, with the prospect of generating 1,300 jobs.
Francisco Leitão, who gave no date for the start of activity, said the investment is expected to boost the region's economy.
He said that over the weekend, the team of investors had been prospecting for space in the Bata-Bata and Palanca areas, where the project to plant eucalyptus trees for the manufacture of paper and charcoal is expected to be implemented.
"We visited the two locations where studies have been carried out for the cultivation and planting of trees, as well as for the assembly of a factory complex for the processing and transformation of food products and more," he said.
The provincial director of the integrated economic development office in Huíla, Domingos Calumana, on his turn said the investments proposed by the foreign company are of "extreme importance", as they will bring gains to the region. JT/MS/DAN/AMP
