Moçâmedes - Namibe governor Archer Mangueira on Thursday urged locals to invest more in family farming, with the aim to fight hunger and improve the quality of life in the communities.
The governor made the appeal during a consultation meeting with the communities, known as ‘citizenship day’, held in Forte Santa-Rita commune, the province's seat municipality.
It aimed to address the main problems that afflict the population and identify solutions.
According to the governor, there should be more focus on cultivation to produce goods that serve not only for self-support, but also for trade to generate income and help improve the living standards of the locals..
Archer Mangueira guaranteed that there is space to develop agriculture and that all that is needed is for those interested to formalize the acquisition process, adding that at least 900 hectares of land are available in Bibala municipality.
Forte Santa-Rita has more than 10,000 inhabitants, mostly small farmers and livestock (goat and pig) and poultry farmers, they also grow vegetables, cereals, tubers and fruit.
During the meeting, the people presented problems related to the lack of water, electricity, health centers and secondary schools, as well as called for improved access roads. FA/VC/DAN/AMP
