Ondjiva – Nangolo Mbumba took office, on Sunday afternoon, in Windhoek, as the new President of the Republic of Namibia following the death of President Hage Gottfried Geingob.
Nangolo Mbumba, who becomes the fourth President of Namibia and due to constitutional imperative, was until then Vice-President of the Republic, a position he leaves to Netumbo Nandi Ndeitwa.
Hage Geingob died, in the early hours of Sunday, due to illness at the age of 82.
He was admitted to Lady Pohama Hospital in the Namibian capital, Windhoek, after being diagnosed with cancer.
However, the cause of death was not announced, but a regular medical examination carried out at the beginning of January this year revealed that the head of state had cancer.
Geingob was the third President of Namibia, a country that became independent on March 21, 1990, when it was no longer politically controlled by South Africa.
The second President of the neighboring country of Angola was Hifikepunye Lucas Pohamba, who governed from 2005 to 2015, after succeeding Sam Nujoma, the first Namibian head of state.
