The European Union (EU) and the United Nations (UN) have donated equipment and means to support actions to combat gender-based violence in Mozambique, the entities announced on Thursday.
There are 10 vehicles, 50 motorbikes and 20 computers that were donated to the Mozambican government as part of actions aimed at “eliminating all forms of violence against women and girls” in the country, said a joint EU-UN press release.
“The equipment will make the work of the police authorities and the justice, health, gender and social protection sectors more flexible and reinforced in preventing and responding to cases of violence, making services more accessible to women and girls,” the document adds.
The donation is made under the Spotlight initiative, launched in March 2019, which aims to eliminate sexual and gender-based violence and early unions and promote women and girls’ sexual and reproductive health rights.
The four-year initiative has an investment of €35 million, funded by the EU, and is expected to benefit over six million people, half of whom are women and girls.
