Luena - The travel agency Travelgest, which supports the tourism sector in Angola, plans to triple the number of tourist trains arriving in Angola as from 2023, the company's director, José Cabral, told ANGOP on Monday.
The company’s director, who was speaking at the arrival in Angola’s eastern Moxico Province of a delegation of tourists on board of the luxurious train "RUVOS", coming from Zimbabwe’s Victoria Falls, heading to Lobito, centre-west Benguela Province.
The train that carries tourists of various nationalities, including Swiss, South Africans, Dutch and Russians has passed through Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Cabral added that with the normal resumption of the economic segment in the country following a "turbulent" period imposed by the covid-19 pandemic, conditions have been created to increase the annual frequency of trains with tourists for greater dissemination of Angola's potential.
Cabral went on to say that the country will receive two tourist trains this year, with the second arriving on July 29 from Dar es Salaam, capital of Tanzania.
In Luena City the tourists enjoyed a guided tour passing by the Luena Cinema, the Peace Monument and the Cathedral of the catholic Diocese of Luena.
On the occasion, the 88-year old Swiss tourist, apparently the oldest of the caravan, Michelle Doret, said she was visiting the country for the first time and was delighted by the welcome of the Moxico population, characterizing it as "cheerful" and "energetic".
The youngest of the caravan, on her turn, the South African Clara Merry, 20 years old, said she is taking advantage of this tourist trip to deepen the cultural knowledge she has acquired about Angola, especially its cultural mosaic.
The municipal administrator of Moxico, Quintas Miúdo Sempiecas, highlighted the economic and cultural potential of the province, especially agriculture, beekeeping, fishing and wood.
