Luanda - The investments made by Angola, Zambia and Namibia in telecommunications and information technologies to connect communities were in the spotlight of the first opening panel of the third edition of the International Forum on Information and Communication Technologies of Angola, ANGOTIC 2023.
The event taking place from June 12 to 14 in Angolan capital, Luanda, runs under the motto "Connectivity and Technological Modernisation", and it brings together over 100 national and international companies.
Speaking to the press, Angola’s minister of Telecommunications, Information Technology and Media, Mario de Oliveira, said the country has been investing in the development of the sector, with a strong bet on the National Space Programme, ANGOSAT, optical fibre and capacity building of the national staff.
The minister highlighted the involvement of partners of the private sector that have been working for the development of Information and Communication Technologies.
"We’ll create conditions for the entire socio-economic, cultural and educational ecosystem to benefit all Angolans and the continent," Oliveira said.
The minister stressed that technologies are in constant development and that the State is currently creating the bases, with fibre optic networks, the national space programme, ANGOSAT, youth training and cyber security strategy.
Zambia's minister of Science and Technology, Felix Mutati,on his turn, said the country plans to invest in digital infrastructure to become a centre in the southern African region.
The Zambian minister explained that his country expects to put into operation the biggest data centres in Zambia, which could happen later this year, underlining that the Southern African nation is currently creating opportunities for investment.
Mutati said that on June 4 Zambia will launch the connection of all secondary schools through fibre optics.
Namibia's deputy minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, pointed out that her country has been making investments to connect the whole country.
The Namibian official added that her country has already performed connectivity work and the nation’s 2030 vision is to have 90% broadband coverage.
The 3rd edition of ANGOTIC 2023 - International Forum on Information and Communication Technologies of Angola runs under the motto "Connectivity and Technological Modernization", Luanda.
ANGOTIC 2023 is a global event of information and communication technologies carried out and promoted by the Angolan government, through the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication.
The event aims to promote debate around current global and future themes of Information and Communication Technologies, knowledge sharing and facilitate networking for government entities, exhibitors, experts, present innovations and trends in the sector.
