Malanje - Public and private companies in northern Malanje province on Thursday were urged to scrupulously comply with the Compulsory Social Protection Law to enable workers to enjoy retirement and other benefits in a swift, fair and exemplary manner.
The appeal was made by Franco Mufinda, Malanje deputy governor for Political, Economic and Social sector, during a seminar on Compulsory Social Protection organized by the National Social Security Institute (INSS), in partnership with the provincial government.
Mufinda said the measure implies the commitment of those responsible for the related areas of the institutions to ensure that all the legal requirements are met to increase number of contributors, especially in the municipalities, through the registration of employees in the Social Security.
The official said the procedure will increase the income of workers in situations of old age, death, illness, family expenses and disability, urging workers to be aware of the Social Protection laws.
Mufinda explained that failure to regularize companies' tax situation with the INSS promotes unfair competition and weakens the social security system.
The head of the Provincial Services of the National Social Security Institute, Francisco Bernardo, on his turn said the seminar was part of the strategy to disseminate the Compulsory Social Protection law and extend coverage in the province.
Bernardo said at least 6,500 employees are registered in the Social Security in the province, a figure he said is below expectations and that the focus is on continuous awareness raising for compliance with the law.ACC/NC/PBC/DAN/AMP
