Malanje - The second provincial commander of the National Police in Malanje, Celso Binda, called today for the involvement of families, traditional and religious authorities and other social actors, in awareness-raising activities aimed at reducing cases of road accidents in the region.

This appeal arises due to the register of 70 road accidents, which resulted in 19 deaths and 94 injuries, from January to the present date, in the province.

Speaking at the opening of the conference celebrating the 45th anniversary of the Traffic and Road Safety Directorate, celebrated on the 21st of this month, the official highlighted that the involvement of these social actors must be limited essentially to civic and moral education actions among young people, who are the most involved in road accidents.

He indicated overcrowding, disqualified driving and driving while intoxicated, among others, as being the main causes of accidents in the city of Malanje, and should therefore deserve society's attention to combat them.

On the other hand, Celso Binda urged the staff of the Provincial Department of Traffic and Road Safety to be guided by professionalism, selflessness and total commitment to tasks aimed at preventing accidents on the roads.

He also highlighted the transformations that the Traffic Police registered throughout its history, which culminated in training and consequently improvements in the professional performance of its staff.

In turn, the head of the Provincial Department of Traffic and Road Safety, José João da Silva Neto, announced soon the implementation of new services to better satisfy the needs of users, with emphasis on multimedia exams and issuance of a new vehicle title.

The days celebrating 45 years of the Traffic Police and Road Safety take place under the motto “Aimed at the modernization, expansion and humanization of services, towards the reduction of road accidents” and include lectures and sporting activities.

The Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety is an executive body of the General Command of the National Police, which is responsible for developing prevention and road safety strategies, managing the registration of drivers and vehicles, evaluating the teaching system of driving schools and issuing driving licenses and property titles, among other duties.
