Malanje - The Civil Protection Service and Firefighters in Angola have said they continue urging families along the Kwanza River, in Cacuso municipality, northern Malanje province to suspend farming and fishing activities, while floodgates of Laúca dam remains open.
The floodgates of the dam remain open until March, with the aim to regulate the flow of the Kwanza River, as the National Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics (INAMET) forecast heavy rains in the region in the coming months.
Firefighters and technicians of the electricity production company (PRODEL) continue to warn locals to seek safe places, while the process is still underway.
The Firefighters commander, Caetano Benge, said no casualties have been recorded during the process, adding that families should comply with all the recommendations and avoid going into the river.
"During the period we sensitized the entire population and it was only necessary to transport certain citizens who were fishing along the river," he said. PBC/AMP
