Cuito - Ten million and 692 thousand kwanzas (about 12,000 USD dollars) is the amount used so far for the social protection of 81 families with albinism in the municipality of Nhãrea, Bié province, ANGOP learned today.

The process is being developed within the Kwenda program, in a component focused on policies to support the poorest families.

The information was provided by the general director of the Social Support Fund (FAS) in Bié, Rizoni Costa Chivembe, when speaking about the process of preparing the second payment phase.

The first phase, payment for which was made in three installments, took place in September and October 2023, in which each household received 132,000 kwanzas.

According to Rizoni Costa Chivembe, the Social Support Fund in Bié is currently working on registering this target group, in the remaining municipalities of the province, to continue the process.

Only in Cuito, for example, is there a social protection center called “Aldeia Jeová Nissi”, located in the commune of Cunje, seven kilometers north of Cuito, which controls 306 albinos.

Kwenda is an Angolan Executive program, which aims to create policies to support the poorest and most vulnerable families in the country.

Since 2020, when it was implemented, Kwenda has already benefited, in Bié, around 196,000 families from the municipalities of Andulo, Nhãrea, Cuemba, Camacupa, Cunhinga and Chitembo.

Government of Bié joins the efforts

Last Wednesday (27th), people with albinism in Aldeia Nissi benefited from sunscreen and other goods.

Delivered by the provincial governor, Pereira Alfredo, the means aim to contribute to actions to protect and integrate them into society.

The government official, who visited this center to learn about its operation, also delivered a batch consisting of food, school supplies, medicines and clothing.
