Malanje - A school meal production project will be developed this year by the Institute of Agro-food Technology (ITA), aiming to benefit primary school students in Malanje Province.
The initiative comes in response to the challenge launched by the Malanje provincial government, so that ITA, as an ducational institution, can take advantage of its strengths and invest in the transformation of local products intended for school meals.
The information was provided today, Tuesday, by the head of the Queen Njinga A Mbande University, Eduardo Ekundi Valentim, adding that at this time ITA is working on improving the skills of the technicians who will be involved in structuring the project.
He said that at this time they are also establishing links with municipal administrations, in order to present needs and suggestions for the composition of meals.
On the other hand, the University Rector announced the holding of a fair to taste products produced by the Institute of Agro-food Technology (ITA), with a view to highlighting its commitment to the field of food processing.
Linked to the Queen Njinga-a-Mbande University (URNM), ITA is the only higher education institute focused on food processing and that teaches the Agro-food Engineering course.
Opened in 2020 by President João Lourenço, the Institute was built in an area of 79 thousand square meters and has capacity for 350 students.
It has a research center with 10 labs, of which two training and eight research labs, and two pavilions for processing plant and animal foods.
