Ramiros - About 1,000 hectares of vegetation were ravaged after fire broke out early afternoon of Saturday at Quiçama national park, Luanda province, fire department has said.
The fire broke out at 6 pm and put out at 10 pm of the same day, the spokesman for the provincial command of the National Firefighter department (SNPCB), intendent Faustino Minguês told Angop on Monday.
He said 35 members, including firefighters, park inspectors, the National Police and the local administration managed to circumscribe the fire, believed to have been started.
Faustino Minguês recalled that a few days ago the region recorded similar actions, when hunters started fire inside the park with a view to scaring away the animals.
Twelve people have been arrested after being caught in the act starting fire in the site.
So far, no animal deaths have been recorded. Quiçama National Park is located in the commune of Cabo Ledo, about 100 kms south of Luanda city centre.
