Dundo - The governor of eastern Lunda-Norte province, Deolinda Vilarinho, reiterated Tuesday that the local government will continue to implement actions based on the need to preserve children's rights, in the light of the Constitution of the Republic of Angola and the 11 commitments made by the Government.
The governor made the remarks during a meeting with members of the 8th Committee of the National Assembly, stressing that ensuring the right to education, health and registration, among others, will continue to be at the centre of her government's priorities.
Deolinda Vilarinho added the local government faced some challenges to build a playground, an inclusion school and other facilities to support children's wellbeing, having asked deputies on a working visit to the district to advocate for their realization.
The conclusion of the Shelter for the Elderly, with 34 dormitories to house 68 elderly people, a doctor's office, leisure room, among other areas, whose level of physical execution is around 95 per cent, is one of the local government's challenges.
The infrastructure under construction in the municipality of Chitato is budgeted at 488 million kwanzas.
The MPs are assessing the social situation in Lunda-Norte, with emphasis on issues related to children's rights, juvenile justice, birth registration, gender equality, the "Kwenda" cash transfer program and the fight against poverty.
The MPs want to know whether the province has the infrastructure to accommodate vulnerable people and minors in conflict with the law, as well as the physical and financial implementation of the social projects included in the Comprehensive Municipal Intervention Plan (PIIM).
To this end, the parliamentarians are holding meetings with municipal administrators, heads of the offices of the provincial delegation for Justice and Human Rights and for Social Action and Gender Equality, as well as visiting some public institutions and works in progress in the municipalities of Chitato, Lóvua and Cambulo.
The 8th Committee parliamentarians' field trip ends on Wednesday in the municipality of Cambulo, where, among various projects, they will visit the works of the municipal administrative complex. HD/DAN/AMP
