Luena - The provincial governor of Moxico, Ernesto Muangala, has recommended that a technical commission be set up to create the status of a National Institute for the Peace Monument Complex, the main symbol of Peace and Reconciliation in the country inaugurated 12 years ago in Luena city.
Since its inauguration in 2012, the peace complex, which was designed as a National Institute, has never had such a status to give it financial and administrative autonomy.
However, in 2018, a technical committee sent a proposal for an organizational statute to the Ministry of Territorial Administration (MAT) and Culture, but so far the local authorities have never received a response.
Due to the lack of this statute, the architectural structure built to "crown" the end of the armed conflict has been deteriorating with each passing year due to the lack of regular maintenance.
In other words, this emblematic monument has never received a thorough restoration since it was inaugurated and is becoming increasingly uncharacteristic.
Faced with this situation and after a visit to the site, the provincial governor reiterated the importance of approving an organic statute for the institution, and directed the reactivation, as a matter of urgency, of the commission responsible for its implementation, according to a note from the provincial government to which ANGOP had access.
The statement stresses the need to revitalize the green of the surrounding trees, with the aim of restoring the vital lung of the complex "as soon as possible".
The complex was inaugurated on 4 April 2012 by the then President of the Republic, José Eduardo dos Santos.
The infrastructure was designed to be a Centre for Studies and Bibliographic Production of the entire process that determined the conquest of peace in Angola. ISAU/TC/YD/TED/AMP
