Cuito - The Kingdom of Spain is to provide 150 million euros for construction of an ophthalmologic hospital in Luanda, Spain's ambassador to Angola, Manuel Hernández Ruigómez, said today in the city of Cuito, Bié province.
According to the diplomat, who is in Bié this Thursday for a 48-hour visit, the project for the health unit is already being studied and construction is due to begin in 2022.
Manuel Hernández Ruigómez was speaking at the end of his visit to the construction work of the International University ofCuanza, a Spanish cooperation project, which is being built in the city.
The ambassador said that construction of the ophthalmologic hospital in Luanda was a bet of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, who worked hard to get this credit from the Spanish authorities.
He said that during the recent visit of the President of the Spanish government, Sánchez Pérez Castejón, to Angola, the issue had been discussed, with a view to this purpose moving forward as soon as possible.
UNIC to open its doors next September
The International University of Cuanza (UNIC) will start operating next September, at the beginning of the academic year, said the institution's president, Vitorino Baião.
The institution will start, in a first phase, with more than five thousand students, in undergraduate and postgraduate courses in social sciences, humanities and education sciences, and in various engineering specialities.
