Dundo - The director of the Angolan Engineering Laboratory Fernando Bonito Thursday ruled out the risk of two buildings in zone 1 of Mussungue, in northern Lunda norte province, which are 15 metres from a ravine, collapsing.
Speaking to the press at the end of a visit to the 38-metre deep ravine and to the buildings, he stressed that "there is no reason to evacuate the residents because the buildings are safer.
"From the assessment we made, we concluded that there is no evidence that endangers the two buildings, so we call on residents to remain calm," he said.
In the two buildings, located in zone 1 of the city, live 16 families, a total of 80 people.
The minister for Public Works, Urbanism and Housing, Carlos Santos, has been in the city of Dundo since early hours this Thursday to assess the level of progression of some of the ravines and to find solutions.
The Mussungue satellite city, located southwest of the city of Dundo, has 419 buildings, 5,400 flats, 153 commercial spaces and is made up of 4 and 5 bedroom flats.
The project, whose first phase is sub-divided into seven areas, six of which are residential and one is for social facilities, has a hospital with 95 beds, a crèche with 24 rooms and a school for 1,300 pupils.
The flats already concluded, which house over 15,000 people, represent the first phase of the project, which foresees 20,000 homes to be built in phases.
