Malanje- The administrator of the Cangandala Municipality of Malanje Province, Dilangue Baião, on Monday said that the region has the attractions to be one of the 10 tourist destinations in the world chosen by the North American television channel CNN for the year 2024.

According to the official, the municipality has the conditions to be listed among the places to visit in Angola in case it is elected, highlighting the Cangandala National Park, home to the Giant Sable Antelope, the Kwanza and Zamba rapids, the Sete and Ngoa Islands, as well as Kwanza beach.

He also emphasised that Kwanza Island is one of Cangandala's main tourist attractions, which the Malanje government and the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism are currently working to make more profitable in the future.

The Kwanza rapids are currently the most popular, with a considerable number of national tourists, especially at weekends and on public holidays.

Dilangue Baião said that the municipal centre of Cangandala currently has four restaurants, five guest houses, seven bars and five tourist attractions, elements that also guarantee the well-being and comfort of visitors.

He revealed that the region also has the conditions for private investment in the tourism sector, so the local authorities are interested in receiving business initiatives with the aim of increasing production and diversifying the economy, as well as creating job.

Without giving details, he said that 2024 would be a year of action by the Malanje government, so the parkway and others could be restored in the short and medium term, with a view to boosting tourism and the agricultural sector.

The municipality of Cangandala covers an area of 6,301 square kilometres and includes the municipal seat and the communes of Caribo, Culamagia and Bembo, with an estimated population of 50,000 inhabitants.
