Lubango – Community Development and Health Agents (ADECOS) started on Tuesday (13th) collecting data from some southern region-based households to ensure the research on chronic malnutrition.
Meanwhile, two hundred twenty two agents with ADECOS are collecting the data from the families in the southern provinces of Huíla and Cunene, ahead of “ Crescer" project.
Crescer project is the Four Component of the Programme for Strengthening Resilience and Food and Nutrition Security in Angola (FRESAN), jointly conducted by Angolan Government and the European Union.
The move is meant to contribute to generation of evidence, disseminate and transfer knowledge of strategies, with a view to reducing malnutrition and mortality rate among children under five years of age based in Huíla and Cunene.
Of this number, 118 agents are conducting research in the municipalities of Chicomba and Jamba (Huíla) and the remaining 104 are working in Cahama and Cuvelai (Cunene).
Data survey covers residences, families, pregnant women, among other crucial data for the research.
The work is running until next September.
The results of the Survey on Multiple Health Indicators (IIMS 2015-2016) show that Angola more than 2.1 million children (38 percent of children under five) are chronically malnourished, which can have an impact on their health general and cognitive development.
