Luanda – Three candidates are running for the presidency of the Red Cross of Angola, whose election will take place on Wednesday at the 5th Ordinary General Assembly that has been taking place since Tuesday, May 9, in Luanda.
These are Carlos Gourgel, Faustina Alves, Delfina Cumandala, who for more than a month carried out campaigns throughout the country.
Eighty-six delegates from all over the country participate in the assembly, which will also review the organization's statute.
The delegates will also proceed to discuss and approve the Internal Rules of the General Assembly, the institution's Code of Conduct and presentation of the accounts report from 2018 to 2023.
At the opening of the meeting, the Secretary of State for Public Health, Carlos Pinto de Sousa, said that the Red Cross is one of the institutions with which humanity counts for the promotion of the dignity of the human person, in the relief of suffering resulting from human acts and natural phenomena and it is expected to be more active, united, dynamic and cooperative organization in achieving the goals of the Angolan State in improving the quality of life of vulnerable people.
The official expects the continuity of ongoing projects that have a direct and immediate impact on citizens' lives, the overcoming of internal challenges, as well as greater national and international mobilization of resources for better performance.
Red Cross of Angola is a national society recognized by the Government of the Republic of Angola as a voluntary relief organization that assists public and private authorities, within the scope of humanitarian activities.
