Luanda - A training action for health professionals on the prevention of monkey pox disease was recently held in Luanda as part of strengthening programme for prevention of monkey pox.
The seminar on the disease, a zoonosis caused by the monkey pox virus, was jointly sponsored by World Health Organisation (WHO) and Directorate of the Cardio-Pulmonary Hospital Complex Dom Alexandre do Nascimento.
The seminar reinforced the capacity of professionals in terms of prevention, control and management of diseases, in particular the possible occurrence of cases of monkeypox in the national territory.
Data released by WHO points to more than 18,000 cases of the disease reported in 78 countries, including five deaths, with more than 70 percent coming from Europe and 25 from the Americas.
According to the WHO representative in Angola, Djamila Cabral, the world is on alert due to the monkeypox virus, transmitted mainly through direct or indirect contact with the blood, body fluids or mucous membranes of animals that has affected thousands of people, with serious health consequences.
