Luanda – Luanda’s Prenda Hospital is to have a ward dedicated to nephrology services, whose medical specialty is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the urinary system, mainly those related to the kidney, the Health Minister Sílvia Lutucuta has said.
The new services will be implemented after the facelift the premises is receiving since 2021 is finally completed.
To date, operating theatres and outpatient areas have already been refurbished, while internal consultation, intensive care room, orthopedics, neurosurgery, general surgery and maxillofacial surgery are partially completed.
According to the minister, who was speaking to the press at the end of an assessment visit to the Prenda Hospital by the President João Lourenço, since it was built the hospital has never been given a facelift.
"We were already in a critical situation and the hospital, on its own initiative, has found ways and, step by step, has been working on the hospital's priority areas," said the minister.
The third-level national reference hospital has a capacity of 250 beds and 82 haemodialysis monitors, including intensive care, and assists over 700 patients every day, while statistics show that 72,951 patients have been treated in the first quarter of this year.
Operating since 1974, Prenda Hospital provides medium and highly complex medical and surgical care through qualified teams and develops research and teaching programmes in the specialities of neurology, orthopedics, general surgery, ophthalmology and internal medicine. VM/MRA/AMP
