Luanda – At least 1,952 healthcare workers received Covid-19 vaccine in the province of Luanda on Sunday, as part of ongoing national vaccination drive.
The minister of Health, Silvia Lutucuta, said that 2,857 health professionals from various health units were immunised in two days.
The minister put at 15,000 the number of health workers who are supposed to benefit from the first dose of the vaccine, with second to be applied within 8 weeks.
Paz Flor Tourist Complex-based center, in Luanda, has the capacity to vaccinate up to 6000 people per day.
As for Tuesday, according to the minister, the programme foresees to cover people aged over 60 years old, including the patients listed in hemodialysis centers.
After Luanda, according to the health authorities, professionals from the provinces of Benguela and Cabinda will benefit from the vaccine. These are the three provinces in the country with the highest number of Covid-19 active cases.
The vaccination process defined by the Executive covers, in a first phase, 20 percent of the Angolan population, totaling 6,419,534 people with continuous exposure, such as health professionals, social services and public order and security, people with risk and aged 40 years or over.
Angola received 624,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine, as part of Covax Initiative.
The country expects to receive, by the end of June, 6.4 million doses of AstraZeneca or others available to cover the needs of the first stage of the Vaccination Plan against Covid-19.
Angolan government spent 32 billion kwanzas to halt the spread of Covid-19.
The country also obtained support from United Nations agencies, estimated at 6.2 million dollars in reagents and biosafety material.
