Ndalatando – Angola’s largest opposition party the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) is since Saturday promoting a campaign to update the database of the organization’s militants in Cuanza Norte province.
Opened in the municipality of Ndalatando by the party's provincial secretary, Francisco Fernandes Falua, it plans to register around 70,000 members, including new and old militants.
The three-month process will cover all 10 municipalities in the province, besides registering new members it is also intended to remove the names of deceased militants from the organization’s database.
Falua said the initiative is part of the actions that anticipate the implementation of local authorities, with the preparation of the register of the exact number and location of militants.
The party census will be carried out at the same time as the process of enrolling new militants in parallel markets and places of population concentration.
UNITA in Cuanza-Norte is currently represented in the province's 10 municipalities and has three deputies elected to the National Assembly in the 2022 elections.
Of this number, two were elected from the provincial constituency and one from the national constituency.
