Luanda - The special envoy of the president of the African Union Commission (AUC) for women, peace and security, Bineta Diop, considered Friday, in Luanda, Angola's experience as a mediator in armed conflicts to be successful.
Bineta Diop said the mediation process has made it possible to bring encouragement and strength to women in conflict regions, since Angola, after 30 years of war, has shown resilience and contributed to accelerate the mediation of conflicts in the Great Lakes Region.
The AUC president's representative made the statement at the opening of the third high-level women's forum, held in Angolan capital, Luanda, having thanked the country’s government for its availability.
Bineta Diop highlighted that, in an Africa affected by conflicts, it is only possible to build a promising or harmonious future if everyone works together to make their voices heard.
The two-day forum brought together delegates from 12 Member States of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), gender ministers or their representatives, members of the African Women Leaders Network, FemWise Africa, among others.
Agencies of the United Nations system, heads of diplomatic missions, representatives of religious institutions, academics, among others also took part in the event.
