Luanda - The Republic of Türkiye has said Angola is one of its main partners on the African continent, as the two countries have achieved a substantial level of cooperation in various fields in recent years based on friendship ties, the Turkish ambassador to Angola, Ufuk Ekici, said Monday in Luanda.
Speaking at the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey, the diplomat pointed out that, among other sectors, the main areas of this cooperation are trade and business.
In 2022, the turnover between the two countries was estimated at 250 million US dollars, a figure that does not reflect the cooperation potential.
According to the Ambassador, Türkiye's short-term goal is to reach an annual figure of 500 million US dollars.
Turkish companies' interest in doing business and investing in Angola has been growing in recent years, the ambassador said, underscoring that his country’s government is happy and proud to be among the main investors in Angola.
The diplomat revealed that, in addition to mining, there are potential fields for cooperation between the two countries, namely energy, agriculture and textile industry and education, which has seen an increase in scholarships for Angolan citizens.
He informed that more than 30 Angolan students are at Turkish universities studying for bachelor's or master's degrees in various fields, including medicine and engineering.
The diplomat said his country is following and praising Angola's ongoing efforts towards peace and stability in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the Great Lakes region.
Diplomatic relations and cooperation between the two countries are considered excellent; Ankara and Luanda have been working to improve bilateral cooperation in different areas.
