Luanda - African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson Moussa Faki arrived in Luanda Wednesday afternoon to attend the investiture ceremony of the Angolan Head of State João Lourenço, scheduled for Thursday, Sept 15.
At Luanda’s 4 de Fevereiro International Airport, Moussa Faki was received by minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, and the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs Esmeralda Mendonça.
Speaking to the press, the AUC Chairman praised Angola’s role in maintaining peace in Africa, with stress to the Great Lakes region.
According to the African Union official, his presence in Angola is a sign of recognition of the effort undertaken by President João Lourenço to promote peace in several countries on the continent.
Also arrived on Wednesday in Luanda to attend the inauguration of President João Lourenço, the vice-president of Burundi Prosper Bazombanza, who highlighted the good cooperation and political relations existing between Angola and Burundi.
In turn, the minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia Nikola Selakovic, who also arrived in Angola this Wednesday, reiterated his country's availability to contribute to the diversification of Angola's economy, in different sectors.
Even today, the Oil and Energy minister of Chad Djerassen Le Bemadjei, came to Luanda, on behalf of the President Idriss Itno.
Still to attend the swearing in ceremony, Mohamer Farrara lashtar, the assistant minister of the President of the Republic of Nicaragua, and Liu Yuxi, representing the Chinese government, arrived in Luanda this Wednesday.
The investiture of President João Lourenço and Vice-President of the Republic, Esperança da Costa, will take place at Praça da República (Republic Square) in Luanda, following the victory of the MPLA in the general elections of 24 August.
National and international guests are expected to join dozens of Heads of State and Government at the event.
