Luanda – The Speaker of the Angolan parliament, Carolina Cerqueira, on Sunday in the Republic of South Africa, urged the Pan-African Parliament (PAP) to use its influence in efforts to find a rigorous solution to the conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and the Great Lakes region in general.
She made that appeal through her message delivered in Midrand city in Gauteng Province, to the Speaker of the PAP, Fortune Chirumbira, by Angolan MP Manuel Augusto, chairman of the national monitoring group of Africa's highest legislative body.
Carolina Cerqueira took the opportunity to invite the Zimbabwean MP to visit Angola.
The Angolan parliamentary delegation, led by deputy Manuel Augusto, will participate from the 16th to the 20th of this month, in Midrand, in the meeting of the standing committees and other bodies of the pan-African parliament.
The event, which brings together African parliamentarians, takes place under the motto "Educating an African citizen worthy of the 21st century: Creating resilient educational systems for better access to inclusive learning, of sustainable and adequate quality in Africa".
The Angolan parliamentary delegation is also made up of deputies Arlete Borges, Maria Escovalo, Adalberto da Costa Júnior and Abel Chivukuvuku.
The Pan-African Parliament is the legislative body of the African Union and was inaugurated in March 2004 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Members of the Pan-African Parliament are elected or appointed by their respective National Parliaments or any other legislative body of the Member States.
