Caxito - The vice-president of the MPLA (Ruling Party), Luísa Damião, urged today, in Caxito, Bengo province, the faithful of the United Methodist Church, to continue to be guardians of peace and promoters of the country's development.

Speaking at the service celebrating 139 years of Angolan Methodism, she said that the peace that Angolans have achieved has great meaning and is the condition for the development of any country.

The policy asked the faithful to continue on the path of good and be excellent educators.

She recognized the historical path of Methodism in Angola, mainly in the examples it has transmitted in the mission of evangelizing, educating young people and women and in moralizing society.

“We must all look at this glorious journey of the Methodist church and learn lessons that we must all contribute to having an Angola that in the future can make everyone proud, a more developed, modern and inclusive Angola” she said.

She valued the work that the church has done, mainly in recovering ethical, moral and patriotic values.

The Minister of Culture, Filipe Zau, said that the Methodist church, like traditional religious denominations, has been a strategic partner of the government in the implementation of several programs and projects, from basic primary education to higher education.

“So that children and grandchildren do not inherit more losses, it is time for the state to join forces with all the churches that seek to do good”, he highlighted.

The governor of Bengo, Maria Antónia Nelumba, recognized the contribution of the Methodist church to the country's development, with emphasis on the social sector (construction of hospitals, schools, universities, staff training and agriculture).

The official reaffirmed the willingness and availability of the Bengo government to maintain this institutional relationship with the Methodist church and others, understanding that the country develops with the efforts of all its children. MD/IF/CF/DOJ
