Luanda - The director of the Central Asset Recovery Office of Mozambique, Ana Marrengula, praised Angola Friday, in Luanda, for being a reference and a pioneer in asset recovery process.
Speaking to the press, at the end of a courtesy visit to the Supreme Court (TS) facilities, she pointed out that Angola has several skills, mechanisms and strategies in terms of asset recovery, a fact that earned it international recognition in 2023.
"We understood that we had to come to Angola because it is the right country and the most suitable with very positive results in these matters of asset recovery", she emphasized.
Ana Marrengula said that during the working visit to exchange experiences they found more similarities than differences in terms of asset recovery with their Angolan counterpart.
"Our goal is to transform challenges into solutions in terms of asset recovery and we believe that Angola has also reaped positive experiences and skills that we share", she pointed out.
Over USD 8 billion in asset recovery
The director of the National Asset Recovery Service of the Attorney General's Office (PGR), Eduarda Rodrigues, revealed that, in terms of effective asset recovery, they currently have over USD eight billion.
She reported that they still have many assets seized both in Angola and abroad and are seeking to recover these assets definitively.
Eduarda Rodrigues clarified that the assets that have been recovered are being invested in the country's economy, "that is what has been
done".
She acknowledged that although the National Asset Recovery Service of the Attorney General's Office (PGR) was recently established, it has already left its mark and gained international recognition.
Angola was awarded the international prize for asset recovery in 2023. Eduarda Rodrigues emphasized that, with this international prize, Angola's responsibility in terms of asset recovery increases.
"Since we received this international prize, we have already received four delegations from other countries, who also want to replicate the work we are developing in Angola, and that is gratifying for us," she stressed.
At the Supreme Court, the Mozambican delegation, which has been in the country since the 15th of this month, exchanged views with the judges of this top judicial institution. DC/SC/TED/jmc
