Luanda – Angolan minister of the Interior Eugénio Laborinho asked the staff of the Criminal Investigation Service (SIC) to reflect deeply on the crimes of voluntary homicides and offenses to physical integrity which, according to him, in 2021 dropped to 617 cases, compared to those recorded in 2020
In 2020, the country reported a total of 10,873 cases and, in 2021, there was a decrease in the case standing at 10,256 cases.
Eugénio Laborinho released the statistics at the VII Consultative Council of SIC held Thursday and ran till Friday in Luanda, under the motto “for a more active Criminal Investigation Service, in the fight against crime and of human rights”.
According to the official, in the practice of such criminal acts, there is often the presence of a person acquaintance and family members, who kill for passionate reasons, beliefs to witchcraft, among other reasons.
Therefore, he said that the Ministry of the Interior, through the criminal investigation body, will step up the fight against violent crimes of an economic and financial nature, mainly on embezzlement and corruption.
Regarding the reduction in the number of cases of crimes recorded in 2021, Eugénio Laborinho attributed the measures adopted to the scope of criminal prevention and operational confrontation, especially drug trafficking, violent and economic crimes.
In his speech, the minister spoke of the general elections, called by the President of the Republic for the 24th of August, having recommended that the staff should pay special attention to public security, intensifying prevention actions.
He considered it essential to improve the quality of the services provided, the improvement of action strategies, as well as cooperation and coordination between the Ministry of the Interior bodies and others that make up the country's defence and security system.
Addressing the event, the new director of SIC António Paulo Bendje, reaffirmed that he will continue to pay greater attention to young staff, due to the nature of the work they perform, as it requires responsibility, humility and respect for old employees.
