Dundo - Security on the border between Angola and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), across Lunda Norte province, has been reinforced with more agents from the various bodies of the Ministry of the Interior (Minint), in order to prevent people from entering and leaving illegally during the festive season.
The province of Lunda Norte shares a 770-kilometre border with the DRC, of which 650 are land borders and 120 are river borders.
Through Lunda Norte, the illegal immigrants take several ways to enter Angolan territory, with the use of "jagged roads" being the main tactic.
According to the provincial delegate for the Interior in Lunda Norte, Alfredo Quintino "Nilo", the reinforcement of agents on the border with the DRC also aims to effectively combat the smuggling of fuel, which increases at this time of year.
He also said that over 5,000 police officers were on standby to ensure security and tranquillity for the population across the province, stressing that the forces would target the areas considered "black" (Samacaca neighbourhoods, Canunguna market, Caxinde and the Mandandji bridge).
He appealed to the population to collaborate with the authorities, denouncing the public order disturbers.
