Luanda - The African Union (AU) Commissioner for Agriculture, Rural Development and Blue Economy, Angolan Josefa Sacko, was distinguished on Thursday, in Fez, Morocco, due to her exceptional engagement in favor of sustainable development and climate resilience in Africa.
According to a press release sent to ANGOP, the tribute paid by the Moroccan Baouabate Association is part of the National Day of Moroccan Women, and was witnessed by the Angolan ambassador in Rabat, Baltazar Diogo Cristóvão.
When speaking at the event, Josefa Sacko thanked the gesture, highlighting that the recognition constitutes an important stage in the professional career and testifies to the tireless and selfless work in favor of the transformation of agriculture in the continent's cradle.
She dedicated the distinction to his family, the Angolan Executive, the African Union and rural Moroccan women, who celebrate their day on October 15th.
The prize consisted of presenting a symbol of the national culture of the Kingdom of Morocco.
Josefa Sacko, diplomat and agronomist, is a leading figure in the areas of agricultural development and food security in Africa, with more than 30 years of experience in managing agricultural issues and food policies on the continent.
Before joining the African Union, she was a senior consultant at the Angolan Ministry of the Environment and represented the Executive on several international platforms, including the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
She was also secretary-general of the Inter-African Coffee Organization (IACO), where she coordinated coffee policies in 25 African countries.
In her role as AU Commissioner, she has been an active voice in promoting a sustainable rural economy and agricultural strategies that increase resilience to climate change, the strengthening of the blue economy, as well as the sustainable development of aquatic and marine resources.
Josefa Sacko has received several awards for her contributions to agricultural development and food security, being recognized as one of the most influential women in the agricultural sector in Africa.
