Luanda - The members of the Provincial Auditing Council of the Community of Luanda differed, on Wednesday (July 31), in their contributions on the process of implementing the proposed political-administrative division of the Luanda territory.
The consultation meeting was led by the governor of the province of Luanda, Manuel Homem, at the António Agostinho Neto Memorial.
João Bongue, a member of the Council of Christian Churches in Angola (CICA), argued that the institution's contribution to the matter should be collective and not individual.
For the traditional chief of the urban district of Baia (municipality of Viana), Pedro Gonga, the constituency he heads should also be elevated to the Municipal category, given that in the past it was a cotton production area, which should deserve, In his opinion, another attention from the authorities for its development.
The provincial secretary of Luanda of the Front for the Liberation of Angola (FNLA) political party, Xavier Gonçalves Dunga, said that his party supports the initiative of the proposed political-administrative division, as it will help improve the current socio-economic situation in the communities.
In turn, the general secretary of the “Trial of Fifty”, José Diogo Ventura, argued that the proposal should first be analyzed by the different classes in the city of Luanda and, subsequently, in a broader forum, considering, however, how important the division is for better administrative management.
Before the hearing, the MPLA Parliamentary Group acting president, deputy Virgílio de Fontes Pereira, presented arguments regarding the process of implementing the proposed political-administrative division of Luanda, having advanced the populational exodus as one of the motivations.
Deputy Paulo de Carvalho, in statements to the press, said that from the consultation carried out with the community councils of the nine municipalities and also of the province, the majority of those involved supported the idea of administrative division, with some calls for attention, in order for the Executive to implement public policies for the regions' development and progress.
He highlighted that “The intention is to decongest and bring services closer to citizens who live in the most remote areas”.
