Huambo - The governor of Huambo province, Lotti Nolika, reaffirmed on Monday, in the southern Huambo Province, her full commitment to continue working to reduce the various challenges faced daily by veterans of the homeland, with the aim of giving them greater dignity.
In the message ANGOP had access to on the occasion of the National Day of Former Combatants and Veterans of the Homeland, marked today, 15 June, under the slogan "United in diversity, strong and firm for the construction of a better Angola", she guaranteed that the government would do everything possible to dignify this important group in Angolan society.
She called on the veterans to remain strong and believe in better days ahead and invited the younger generations to continue to honour the efforts of Angola's valiant combatants.
She recognised that the fighters and veterans of the homeland left their deeds behind during their youth and embraced the liberation struggle, playing a crucial role in the country's obtaining independence, the conquest of peace and national reconciliation, achievements that should be praised every day.
To her, for Angolans 15 January is an expression of the government´s deepest recognition and consideration for the former combatants and veterans of the homeland, as an inexhaustible source of inspiration for preserving the national patriotic conscience and a living example of education for youth and future generations.
Lotti Nolika added that the celebration of the data aims to dignify the heroes of the national liberation and defence of the homeland, who with blood and sweat did their best for the conquest of independence and the safeguarding of the Angolan state.
The National Assembly made 15 January official as the Day of Former Combatants and Veterans of the Homeland, in honour of the date on which the three national liberation movements, namely the People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), National Front for the Liberation of Angola (FNLA) and National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), met in Portugal in 1975 with the aim of analysing Angola's future, especially the country's independence, as well as honoring and appreciating all those who contributed to Angola's liberation from colonial rule.
