Menongue - The president of Angola’s major opposition party UNITA, Adalberto Costa Júnior, on Saturday in Menongue, south-eastern Cuando Cubango Province, urged his party's supporters to flock to the polling stations to vote in the general elections that will take place in the country on August 24.
Adalberto Costa Júnior, who was speaking on the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the party’s female wing, the Angolan Women's League "LIMA", marked on June 18, said his party is working with aim to urge militants and population to avoid "absenteeism" in the polls.
The UNITA leader said there is enough time for voters to consult their data through the means made available by the Ministry of Territorial Administration, so they can know the right polling station to cast the ballot, urging traditional authorities, churches, and other living forces of society to disseminate information regarding this matter.
The politician said he recognizes that after 20 years of peace, Angola has registered social progress, but still insufficient considering the current financial situation the country is going through.
The president of the Angolan Women's League (LIMA), Helena Abel, on her turn, stressed the importance of the role of women in society.
Helena Abel said the LIMA supports the candidacy of its leader, Adalberto Costa Júnior, for alternation of power in Angola, should he win this August’s general elections.
Data from the National Electoral Commission (CNE) indicate that around 14 million voters are registered and eligible to vote in the upcoming general elections.
