Luanda – Angola´s ambassador to Namibia, Jovelina Imperial, and the ambassador of Portugal to the same country, Rui Carmo, on Wednesday in the city of Windhoek analysed the cooperation between the two countries during a courtesy meeting.
According to a press release, on the occasion the diplomats shared the idea that the two states have a long history of friendship and partnership between the two peoples, which should be increasingly strengthened.
The meeting analysed issues related to cooperation between Angola and Portugal, highlighting the long history of friendship and partnership, and the two diplomats reaffirmed their mutual commitment to further strengthening these ties, exploring new opportunities for collaboration in several areas.
Bearing in mind that next week Portugal celebrates the 50th anniversary of 25 April, known as Freedom Day, the occasion also served for the two ambassadors to discuss the importance of the date and its significance for the peoples of Angola and Portugal.
Jovelina Imperial and Rui Carmo also spoke about 5 May, marked as the day of Portuguese language and of the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP), as an important date to praise, celebrate and promote the cultural and linguistic wealth shared by the Portuguese-speaking countries.
Angola and Portugal established diplomatic relations in March 1976, following the declaration of Angola's independence on 11 November 1975.
Since 1978, the two countries have signed the General Agreement on Cooperation aiming to strengthen bilateral relations with the signing of several other co-operation agreements in various fields.
Angola is one of Portugal's main trading partners.
