Caxito – At least 174 projects of the Integrated Plan for Intervention in Municipalities (PIIM) have already been completed and 1,648 are underway across the country.
This was confirmed at the end the First Ordinary Meeting of the Local Governance Council chaired by president João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço in northern Bengo province on Thursday.
The final communiqué points to an accumulated financial execution of AKz 200.9 billion, adding that the financial execution is currently the main constraint in implementing the PIIM.
Even so, the Local Governance Council found that the programme is running smoothly, having recommended to carry on the interaction between the various ministerial departments and the provincial governments, aimed to ensure the successful completion of the various projects of this portfolio.
On the other hand, the Council appreciated the Strategy for the Specialised Training of Angolan Doctors, having been informed that accelerated training in the country of national specialist doctors is necessary, with a view to gradually reducing the foreign workforce by the end of 2027.
The meeting also focused on the Creation of "Reference Schools" project, to ensure the necessary conditions for the progressive creation of a network of reference schools, aimed at contributing, over the next five years, to the improvement of the quality of education in Angola.
For the pilot experience, two pre-school education schools, a pre-school and general education school, eight general education schools, four pedagogical secondary schools, 36 technical-pedagogical secondary schools and six schools were selected to integrate the project.
As for the Strategy for Completion of School Infrastructure at National Level, the Council recommended that the process of interaction with the Ministries of Finance and Economy and Planning be initiated, for its proper treatment and planning in the context of the next General State Budget (OGE).
The Strategy for Completion of School Infrastructure at National Level highlights the constraints that the Education sector faces, regarding the construction of Primary and Secondary Schools of the I and II Cycles, started in 2007, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015, financed through Treasury Regular Resources and External Financing, namely from the African Development Bank (ADB).
