Luanda – The US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Thursday in Luanda that the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) should be more representative and should include African voices.

The American diplomat was speaking during a joint press conference with the Angolan Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, having stressed that the United States of America supports the UNSC reform.

“We want to ensure that the Security Council and other international entities reflect the reality of the world today, not just the realities that existed when those organizations were created, decades ago”, he highlighted.

According to the leader, his country will try to appeal in this sense, which is why it is collaborating with partners in Africa and other members of the current Council to carry out these reforms.

On the other hand, Antony Blinken raised the possibility of President Joe Bide visiting Angola in the near future.

The American diplomat shared the United States' intention to help Africa compete in the global market and show how this giant has accelerated the partnership in key areas, which include climate, food and health security, since the US-Africa Summit, in December 2022.

On the occasion, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, said that the issue of reforming the UN Security Council was presented by the President of the Republic at the aforementioned summit.

The country defends reforms of the Security Council, so that it is more in line with the current international context, reflecting an equitable geographical representation, through the expansion of its permanent members, which are currently just five. FMA/VC/DOJ
