Havana - The laying of a wreath next to the bust of the Founder of the Angolan Nation, Dr. António Agostinho Neto, marked Wednesday the celebrations in Cuba of the 45th (forty-fifth) anniversary of the proclamation of National Independence.
Ambassador Maria Cândida Teixeira, accompanied by officials from the diplomatic mission and Cuban authorities, paid tribute to the first President of the Republic at the Largo dos Próceres Africanos, in Havana, where are placed the busts of prominent political figures of the cradle continent.
On the same day, Cândida Teixeira laid another wreath in the Mausoleum to the Cuban Internationalist Combatants at the Cristobal Colón cemetery in Havana as a gesture of gratitude for the sacrifice consented to by the Cuban fighters in the struggles for independence of Africans.
Later, when addressing guests at an official reception to mark the occasion, the
Ambassador considered that in Angola there was "a tenacious and victorious struggle in which the beloved children of the Angolan and Cuban peoples came together, shedding their blood in for the liberation of peoples in the struggle for decolonisation in Southern Africa".
The activities were attended by Cuban entities, African diplomatic corps accredited in the Latin American country, Angolan diplomatic mission officials and other guests.
