Luanda - The wake of Angolan nationalist Rui Mingas, who died this Thursday, in Lisbon, Portugal, victim of illness, at the age of 84, has been open since Sunday, at his residence on Rua Cabral Moncada, Urban district of Maianga, municipality of Luanda, in the country's capital.
According to a note from the family, published on social media, Rui Mingas' family and friends report that their loved one's wake was opened at 11am on Sunday at his home in Luanda, located on Rua Cabral Moncada.
Hours after the death of the musician, sportsman and politician, the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, considered Rui Mingas to be a personality of great prestige, who on several fronts and in different roles represented the country with talent, competence and dignity.
“His passing impoverishes our country and leaves his family and a big legion of friends and co-workers in mourning. To everyone, in particular his widow and children, we express our condolences and our feelings of regret”, reads the message from the Angolan statesman.
In turn, the National Assembly Speaker, Carolina Cerqueira, highlighted that Rui Mingas' work will endure in the collective memory of Angolans, highlighting that the country lost a good son, but his legacy remains in the annals of history and in the hearts of all. VIC/CF/jmc
