Luanda – Angolan Vice-President, Esperança da Costa, Tuesday honoured the opening ceremony of the 13th edition of the International Jazz Festival in Luanda.
The session took place at Luanda bay, where the Vice-President received greetings from the minister of Culture, Filipe Zau, the provincial governor, Manuel Homem, the administrator of the municipality of Luanda, Milca Caquesse, and the UNESCO Regional Director for Central Africa, Paul Cousteré.
Vice president Esperança da Costa visited the "dawn in the world" art exhibition and talked to artists.
The International Jazz Day Festival is organised by the ResiliArt Angola Project and is the result of a partnership between UNESCO, the American Schools of Angola (ASA) and the Government of Angola, through the Luanda Biennial - Pan-African Forum for the Culture of Peace and Non-Violence.
This year, Jazz is celebrated under the slogan "Dawn in the World: Together for Inclusive Growth, Educating through Art".
The event, which ends on Wednesday, features 40 artists, both national and foreign, and is part of the Jazz Day festivities, which take place worldwide on 30 April.
Its aim is to promote a culture of peace and to inspire current and future generations with messages of peace, hope and social progress, which the artists will convey in their performances.
The organisers recently confirmed the participation of artists from the United States of America, France, Israel, Portugal, Italy, Brazil, Gambia, Russia, Mozambique and Turkey.
From Angola, it was highlighted he Sanguito Sax band, the artists António Andrade, Álvaro Yeca, Alberto Mona, Sozinho Lopes, Frederico Binda, Salomão Edvânia da Costa, Pedro Masisa, Kindala and Sacananu Patrício.
