Nearly 200 cultural agents to attend National Theatre Day

Huambo - Approximately 200 cultural agents from the country's 18 provinces will take part in the National Theatre Day 2024 edition, which will be held at the "Manuel Rui Monteiro" Cultural Centre, in the city of Huambo, between the 27th and 30th of this month.

The information was given to ANGOP on Thursday by the head of the Cultural Action department in Huambo province, Pascoal Pedro Nhanga, who said that the event will mark the celebrations of World Theatre Day, which will take place on 27 March.

He said that the activity, an initiative of the Angolan and provincial theatre associations, in partnership with the Culture, Tourism, Youth and Sports office in Huambo province, would include training in the performing arts, communications workshops, cultural exchange and tributes to various theatre groups in the country.

He said that the event will be marked by theatre performances, between 6pm and 8pm, about Angola's social, economic and cultural reality.

Of the groups to be honoured, he highlighted Colectivo Vozes D'África, Efetikilo, Revelação and União, for their contribution to the growth of theatre in Huambo province and the country in general.

He said that the aim of the days was among other things, to promote cultural exchange, to strengthen the promotion of the performing arts and the massification and promotion of theatre in the country.

The official informed that the provinces of Bengo, Benguela, Cuanza-Norte, Luanda, Namibe and Zaire had already registered, while the other provinces can be registered until the 10th of the current month.

Among the topics to be addressed, stands “Current State of theatre in Huambo”, “Objectives, perspectives and goals of the Angolan Theatre Association”, “International view of theatre”, “Sustainability of theatre”, “Characterisation, make-up, production and costumes" and “Voluntary association, laws, theatre and literature”.
