Lubango - At least nine documentaries will be screened during the International Documentary Film Festival named DocLuanda, which the city of Lubango, in the southern Huila Province, is hosting for the first time, as from Friday to Sunday, at Cine-Teatro Óscar Gil, on the outskirts of the city.
It is all about an event that has already had two editions in Luanda’s capital city. The first edition was held in 2022 and the second edition took place in March this year with no awards.
The four-day event is promoted by the by Criacom/BCC audiovisual production company with the partnership of Óscar Gil Productions, in collaboration with the Association of Film and Visual Audio Professionals (APROCIMA).
During the four days national filmmakers documentaries and Angolan and foreign co-production entitled “Labuta”, “Nzila Angola”, “A Mística dos Tambores” and “Fantasma do Império”, as well as “Para além dos meus passos”, awarded the best national competition film in 2022, “Museu de Manifestações” and “YOON”, the last two winners of the best film in national competition in 2023, will be displayed.
Despite the movies, the festival will hold round-tables on cinema in Angola, holding and production of documentaries, editing and camera operation, and also an exhibition of paintings, books and handicrafts, all fruit of local production.
Speaking at the opening act of the event, the provincial coordinator of APROCIMA´s branch in Huila province, Delfino Ndalila said that the event will mark the official reopening of the Cine-Theater Óscar Gil, which will henceforth show films every day.
He stressed that the aim is to promote and boost cinema made in Angola so that cinema rooms can be open for national production movies and also for co-productions between Angolans and foreigners.
Delfino Ndalila highlighted that they are movies that bring up several subjects mainly daily issues in international and national documentary, adding that one of the objective of the festival is to raise awareness of the value of cinema, mainly the documental one, and another objective is to show what has already been done in this segment.
The official invited all art creators and those interested in film to participate in the event that has free admission during the four days.
DocLuanda presents itself as an event directed towards documentary cinema that intends to encourage cultural exchange and establish a contemporary vision of the world and of Angola through cinema and its history, contributing in this way, also, to the future of the Angolan cinema panorama.
The festival is held annually and intends in the next editions to continue to extend its action or other artistic strands such as concerts, exhibitions and performing arts.
