Ondjiva - The literary work entitled “Conheça Ombala-Ya-Naluheke” (Get to know Ombala-Ya-Naluheke’), written by King Mário Satipamba, was launched on Monday in the southern Cunene Province.

The work portrays the origin and development of the history of the Ovambadja tribe, their place in Angolan historiography and will serve as a support for historians, researchers, anthropologists, academics, among others.

The 51-page book initially has 57 copies available and is being sold at a price of 8,500 kwanzas.

Speaking to ANGOP, the sovereign said that the book highlights the social, cultural and historical importance of these people in order to awaken interest in the history of the Ovambadja and the province in general among the younger generation.

Presenting the book, Leonardo Tuyenikumwe, the promoter of the “Writing to Bloom” project, said that the author describes the origin, settlement and division of the Ovambadja peoples, as well as the construction of the kingdoms of Ombala-Yo-Mungo and Ombala-Ya-Naluheke.

According to the promoter, the work portrays the figures who contributed to the development of the personalities and sovereignty of the Ovambadja kingdom, the loss of its sovereignty and current challenges.

The Ombala-Ya-Naluheke kingdom began to be filled with people in the 15th century, probably when people came from the Great Lakes region in search of better living conditions.

Mário Satipamba is the 20th king of Ombala-Ya-Naluheque, enthroned in 2009.
